While they keep up repeating our world is warming, we just got feet of FRESH SNOW in Montana, Utah, parts of India and Afghanistan to mark the beginning of summer!
2-feet of fresh June snow in Glacier National Park, Montana
Glacier National Park, MT reported 2′ of fresh snow at 6,250′ on the Going-To-The-Sun road yesterday, June 18, 2022.
It’s been a very strange spring in North America with plenty of cold and snow after many areas saw almost no snow in January, February, and March this season.
There is currently no estimate on when the road will open for the summer season.
“There is approximately 1.5-2′ of newly settled snow at 6250′ on the road and much more expected in the avalanche start zones above GTSR. Much of this new snow is expected to avalanche over the next few days due to the dramatic warm-up and sunshine, with large amounts of avalanche debris being deposited on the road between Road Camp and Siyeh Bend. This late storm delayed progress on clearing GTSR and plow crews should be returning to higher elevations on Tuesday.” – Glacier National Park, June 18, 2022

While the dusting was gone by the afternoon in most areas, it looks like Powder Mountain was definitely the ‘winner’ from this ‘storm’.
Looking at the snow history for the season, it could definitely be a top ten storm of 2022, but I’m not sure about the season?

Moreover, pilgrims staying at Rishikesh, Srinagar and Nagrasu gurdwara have been advised to remain there.
SP Chamoli, Shweta Choubey, said, “Hemkund Sahib witnessed over one feet of snowfall on Monday morning following which the yatra was temporarily halted, keeping in mind the safety of the pilgrims.” Hemkund Sahib Gurdwara is situated at a height of around 15,000 ft in the Garhwal Himalayas.
The regional meteorological centre had issued a yellow alert of thunderstorms accompanied with hail and lightning and intense showers in the hills of Uttarakhand on June 20 and 21. This year, nearly 90,000 pilgrims have visited the shrine built near the Hemkund lake.
Snow in Afghanistan too!
While parts of the country has been shaken by a deadly earthquake, central Afghanistan’s Bamyan province is covered by a thick layer of snow.
The unprecedented snowfall and the colder temperatures at this time of the year pose a threat to livestock and damage agricultural products. [SnowBrains, ToI, Khamaa]
