More than 150 people have been killed after an earthquake struck remote western Nepal on Friday.
Security forces have been deployed to help rescue efforts in the rugged districts of Jajarkot and West Rukum, 500km (310 miles) west of Kathmandu.
Strong tremors were felt far away in the Nepalese capital and in cities in neighbouring India, including Delhi.

The army spokesman said more than 100 people had been injured. Jajarkot’s hospital is packed with the wounded.
“People are scared and staying outdoors,” Rabi KC, mayor of Aathbiskot municipality told BBC.
He said that they felt a very strong jolt at midnight and people rushed outdoors. “Hundreds of mud houses have been completely damaged. We are engaged in rescue and relief efforts.”
Three more tremors were felt within an hour of the quake, and many people have spent the rest of the night in the open because of fear of further quakes and damage to their houses.
Video footage on local media showed crumbled facades of multi-storied brick houses. People were pictured digging through rubble in the dark to pull survivors from the remains of collapsed buildings in posts on social media.
Unicef Nepal said that they were assessing the damage and the toll of the disaster on children and families.
Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal arrived in the affected region on Saturday, after expressing his “deep sorrow” at the loss of life and property wrought by the quake, on social media platform X. He said he had ordered security agencies to immediately launch rescue and relief operations.
But those search and rescue operations are being hampered by roads becoming blocked by landslides that were triggered by the quake.

The police chief of Jajarkot district Suresh Sunar told the Reuters news agency it was difficult to get a full picture of what had happened.
“I am out in the open myself. We are collecting details but due to cold and night it is difficult to get information from remote areas,” Mr Sunar told Reuters.
“Houses have collapsed. People rushed out of their homes. I am out in the crowd of terrified residents,” said another police official from the region, Santosh Rokka, who spoke to Reuters immediately after the earthquake.
The earthquake was recorded at 23:47 local time (18:02 GMT), according to Nepal’s Monitoring and Research Centre.
The US Geological Survey measured the earthquake at a magnitude of 5.6, and said it was a shallow earthquake, meaning it happened closer to the earth’s surface.
Nepal is situated along the Himalayas, where there is a lot of seismic activity.
Last month, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake was registered in the western district of Bajhang, resulting in injuries.

In 2015, the country suffered two devastating earthquakes in which 9,000 people were killed and 22,309 injured.
The first, on 25 April 2015, was a 7.8-magnitude quake which caused most of the damage and loss of life. A large number of aftershocks followed, including one that measured 7.3 in May of that year.
The quakes destroyed or damaged more than 800,000 houses mainly in the western and central districts, according to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
Government buildings, some stretches of roads and Kathmandu Valley’s famous historic monuments – Unesco world heritage sites – were destroyed or damaged with many villages north of Kathmandu flattened.

Iranians march for Gaza on anniversary of US embassy takeover
They called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and pledged to stand by Palestine ‘until final victory’.

Thousands of Iranians rallied across the country in support of Palestinians in Gaza, while marking the anniversary of the 1979 takeover of the US embassy in Tehran. They condemned Washington’s support of Israel, which has been relentlessly bombarding the Gaza Strip in its war against Hamas.
Saturday’s rally, which was called for by the state, came as the Israel-Hamas war entered its fourth week.
Hamas’s surprise attack on Israel on October 7 killed about 1,400 people, while more than 240 were taken hostage. The Israeli retaliatory operation has killed more than 9,400 Palestinians.
In Tehran, demonstrators marched from Palestine Square in the heart of the Iranian capital to the former US embassy a few kilometres away. Chants of “death to America” and “death to Israel” rang out throughout the marches.
The November 4, 1979, takeover, which took place after the fall of Iran’s US-backed monarch, lasted 444 days, and 52 Americans were held captive. The site of the US embassy is now accessible to the public as a representation of what Iranian officials call a “den of spies”.
A statement published on behalf of the protesters at the end of the commemoration called for an “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza and warned the United States, United Kingdom and France that the crisis might expand in the region.

Iran nuclear official calls for global condemnation of Israel nuclear threat against Gaza
Speaking in a radio interview, Israeli Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu said Sunday, November 5, that one of Israel’s options in the war against Gaza is to drop a “nuclear bomb” on the enclave.
Commenting on the statement by the Israeli minister, the AEOI chief said on Wednesday that once again, a Zionist official admitted that the Israeli regime is in possession of nuclear weapons, and more importantly, by threatening the oppressed and innocent people of Gaza, the Israeli minister violated the basic principles of international law and the UN Charter.
Following the dangerous remarks by Eliyahu, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said the Israeli nuclear bluster is “indicative of Israel’s failure”.
He made the remarks on the X platform, formerly Twitter.
According to Eslami, though some governments censured Elyahu’s statement, now it is time for international organizations, especially the UN, to break their silence on such an “insolence,” which is a serious threat to international peace and security.
Addressing the International Atomic Energy Agency, especially the UN nuclear watchdog’s Director General, Eslami also called for an “independent and diligent approach” of IAEA due to its framework over nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament.
He stressed the importance of denouncing such destructive threats and reporting their repercussions to the United Nations Security Council.

Around 90 Israeli doctors signed an open letter urging the Israel Defense Forces to bomb hospitals in Gaza.

Only last week, dozens of prominent Israeli rabbis had already assured Israeli leaders that they have a right to bomb al-Shifa hospital in Gaza, and this week’s letter signed by “Doctors for the Rights of IDF Soldiers” urges the bombing of any and every hospital in Gaza.
The letter states, in no uncertain terms, that due to suspicion of “terrorist activity,” the hospitals are “a legitimate target for annihilation.” They claim that “ambulances that are evacuating patients to the south in order to be treated elsewhere are at their disposal.” It does not mention that these ambulances, too, are being bombed by Israel, or that the south is also being mercilessly pummeled.
The doctors claim that “the residents of Gaza… are the ones who brought their annihilation upon themselves” — echoing the genocidal rhetoric of centrist Israeli politicians who have even claimed that “the children of Gaza have brought this upon themselves.”
The doctors apply the terms “snakes,” “wasps,” and “terrorist nests” in the dehumanization of the enemy, which appears to be expanded from Hamas to the whole of the Palestinian people. No to Gaza or Lebanon my life for Iran ,people in Iran chants it.

The publication of a video with launchers can be considered as a warning to the United States about Hezbollah’s readiness to respond to Israeli actions.
The Iranian-made Noor anti-ship missile is a modification of the Chinese C-802 missile and has a target engagement range of up to 120 kilometers at a speed of Mach 0,9. The missile is equipped with a semi-armor-piercing warhead weighing 155 kg, which makes it a significant threat to sea vessels.
Hezbollah, which already had experience in using this type of weapon, has not yet demonstrated significant success in its use. However, the current demonstration of combat capabilities may indicate an intention to increase military pressure in response to increased American military support for Israel.
