September to December 7 2012 – Mysterious crater formation after unexplained Explosion, Eagle, Alaska, USA

Alaska Public reports taht a mysterious geologic event occured near Eagle, Alaska. A large mysterious crater between 150 to 200 feet formed on the 27th of september 2012 following an explosion. Since then the “sink hole” (is this a sink hole? little volcano crater?) emits fire, steam and a sulfur smell although it has already been snowing over the region.

The area is very hard to reach and only overflight photographs are available yet. They show that a crater formed and steams. NPS and USGS geologists think it is a shale oil rock deposit since the area has already 2 slumping craters (5 acres large).

Research will probably start in Spring.
