Warning issued amid seismic activity from Mt. Lokon
Amid increased volcanic activity at Mount Lokon in Tomohon, North Sulawesi, Indonesia, officials have raised the alert level for the volcano to waspada (Level II). Consequently, residents and visitors aren’t allowed from coming within a 1.5-kilometer radius from the crater.
The tremors from Mt. Lokon suggest that gas and magma are migrating, which means pressure has been accumulating. This intense seismic activity could be followed by an eruption.
Alert up as Mayon shows ‘abnormal behavior’
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has raised the alert level of Mayon Volcano to Alert Level 1, after 25 volcanic earthquakes – 91 over the past 2 days – and a higher-than-normal sulfur-dioxide (SO2) emission were recorded on Monday.
Four Dutch tourists and guide treated for injuries after Arenal Volcano rescue
The tourists were injured by a rockslide while they were hiking in one of the canyons near the volcanic crater.
The first [tourists] rescued had various injuries; one of them had a broken collarbone and arm, and the last tourist had a leg injury and various bruises. Hikes onto the volcano is forbidden due to safety reasons.
Visitors are not allowed within 4 kilometers from the crater, due to volcanic activity and rough terrain. The Dutch tourists were in this “off limits” area. They are now in private clinics in La Fortuna.

57 explosions per day at Sabancaya volcano in Peru
Explosive activity during this week has increased, averaging 57 explosions a day, with eruptive columns of gas and ash reaching a maximum height of about 3800 m above the crater. Earthquakes related to fluid movements (Long Period type) continues, while those indicating magma rising (type Hybrids) are decreasing.
