Were they commemorating 9/11? What do they symbolize? Many hundreds of birds were attracted by the lights of the Tribute in Light memorial in New York during the night of September 11 2013.
As shown in the video, a large swarm of birds appeared in the beams of the Tribute in Light Memorial in New York from 10:30pm to predawn. Thanks to the Municipal Arts Society and a number of volunteers watching the events at the Tribute, a number of potential bird collision crises were averted as the lights were extinguished on several occasions when birds were coming dangerously close to surrounding buildings and the lights.
