You never want to hear this alarm! It’s the terrifying sound of tsunami warning recorded just after the 8.2 magnitude earthquake that killed five (heart attacks and scrumbled under collapsing walls) and seriously injured many others in Chile on April 1, 2014 at 11.46GMT (8.46pm local time).
The USGS map shows that the area is still being struck by about 20 aftershocks between magnitude 4.5 and 62… What for aftershocks!
This huge tremor also triggered landslides, blocked roads, cut power for thousands and fires in different businesses. Moreover, about 300 women’s prisonners could escape from the Iquique city prison. Here a longer Youtube video about the situation in Chile right now:
The resulting large tsunami hit the Chilean coast within 45 minutes with waves of up to 2.3 meters high. The true scale of the damage triggered by this earthquake and tsunami will be clearly determined within the next hours.
