This is the kind of technological and engineering treasures we would like to see more!
The following video (by Chris Laing) is a incredible timelapse of the Falkirk Wheel, which is the only rotating boat lift of its kind in the world, and is regarded as a Scottish engineering landmark.
The Falkirk Wheel was constructed in Falkirk, Scotland, in 2002 and connects the Forth and Clyde Canal and the Union Canal. And after seeing this video I am sure you understand why it is one of the most famous Civil Engineering structures around the world.
This amazing wheel is 35m or 115ft high. Each gondola contains 300 tonnes of water. The huge stainless-steel structure rotates 180 degrees during a five minute cycle, transferring the two boat chambers 115 ft. from one level to the next. AMAZING!
[…] This movable bridge, conceived by Knight Architects and structural engineers AKT II, is another engineering wonder like the Falkirk Wheel in Scotland: The only rotative boat lift in the world. […]
