This stunning siphonophore, a strange and rare deep sea creature, was caught on video by E/V Nautilus.
You actually don’t have to go on other planets to find unusual and weird creatures!
Recently, a team from the Nautilus Live expedition sighted one of most eerie-looking lifeforms in the world. A close encounter with a rare, purple siphonophore roving through the ocean’s depths even blew their experienced deep sea explorers minds. Oh my goodness! They could not believe what they were seeing was really real.

It’s not a single jellyfish-like animal, but a roving colony made up of thousands of individual organisms, called zooids, each contributing to the whole. However, more than just its otherworldly shape, this specimen’s purple coloring is said to be rather unusual as well.
