A strong earthquake (M6.3) hit in the region of Coquimbo, Chile on February 10, 2016.
The shallow powerful quake was followed by a series of moderatly strong aftershocks (M4.7 to M5.1).
The earthquake struck at 00:33 am (UTC) around 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the city of Ovalle and 336 kilometers (203 miles) from Santiago, Chile. The epicenter was situated at at a depth of 31 kilometers (19.6 miles).
The main quake was followed by a series of moderately strong aftershocks:

M4.9 – 39km (24mi) of Ovalle, Chile
M4.7 – 38km (24mi) of Ovalle, Chile
M4.7 – 37km (23mi) of Ovalle, Chile
M4.3 – 40km (25mi) of Ovalle, Chile
The Chilean Navy Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service indicated that the characteristics of the earthquake do not meet the conditions to generate a tsunami off the coast of chile.
