The deadly M7.8 Ecuador earthquake occurred on April 16, 2016, 17 miles from the towns of Muisne and Pedernales and 170 km (110 mi) from the capital Quito.
Widespread damage and infrastructures collapses were reported hundreds of miles from the epicenter. At least 659 people were killed and 27,732 people injured.
