A part of the popular Ogun River has mysteriously dried out overnight under the Kara Bridge in Lagos State, Nigeria on June 18, 2016.
The dried section of the river is situated around the famous Kara cattle and ram market has became an attraction. But what are these weird plants?

Residents of the area say they woke up on June 18, 2016 and discovered in shock that the river had completely dried out overnight.

There is no water anymore and people can now stand on the river bed.

Surprisingly, on the other side of the Kara Bridge, the river was seen flowing freely.

Some people were seen testing the solidity of the green that has taken over the waterway by walking across the river and some found it a readymade recreation ground.

Initial suspicion about the cause of this water disappearance was the green water hyacinth but the surface of what used to be the flowing river has become a firm ground.

Residents are asked to stay away from the dried river bed as it could suddenly be swallowed by the ground.

Plants will also be removed in the next days, as they could hide a giant sinkhole or crack.

So what the heck with this new water river disappearance?
Before the unusual incident, the water body served as means of transportation for canoe owners.
Three months ago, the Atoyac River was swallowed by a sinkhole in Mexico.
