A seismic swarm of large earthquakes is currently hitting New Caledonia.
Within a time frame of 5 hours, a M6.1, a M6.6 and a M6.0 struck east of Tadine on November 1, 2017. Small tsunami waves were observed.
New Caledonia is currently experiencing enhanced seismic activity. After the M6.8 earthquake on Halloween, a swarm of strong and shallow quakes is rumbling the same area, east of Tadine, on November 1, 2017:
M 6.1 – 109km E of Tadine, New Caledonia
M 6.6 – 103km E of Tadine, New Caledonia
M 6.0 – 110km ESE of Tadine, New Caledonia
The strong and shallow quakes occurred within 5 hours at a depth of 10km (6.2 mi) on November 1, 2017.
Small tsunami waves have been observed following M6.6. People along coastal areas should be observant and exercise normal caution. There are no tsunami threats or advisories.
