A 3-meter-long giant squid was found stranded, but still alive on April 20, in what local authorities said was a rare occurrence.

At around 10 a.m., a nearby resident spotted the squid at Ugu beach in Obama, Fukui Prefecture, on the Sea of Japan coast.

According to the Obama Municipal Government, the squid was still alive when it was found.

  1. That squid could probably kill a human with its sharp suckers. I remember seeing some underwater footage of the giant squid attacking a scuba diver in a wetsuit. Long while ago. I wonder if they can heal it at the aquarium, and release it back into the deep?

    • I watched the Japanese video. There’s a calamari dinner for 200 people right there. Back in college, when I was broke, I used to get squid, pasta, and make a spicy sauce. It’s very nutritious. Low fat, high protein, carbs from the pasta. Good stuff.
