Hearing loud booms in your area? You’re not alone. This time, loud explosive sounds heard on Saturday were not the result of the moving earth but probably related to US amy exercises. As a result of US marine trainings being performed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, residents heard, felt and still may hear more noise than usual coming from the ranges and may experience possible ground shaking. Moreover, noises from the ranges may travel farther during overcast weather conditions. So residents in and around the joint base area (count 50 miles around) can expect an increase of range activity due to units conducting training at the Fort Dix ranges on Feb. 22-24. According to the base the 87th Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordnance Disposal will conduct demolitions training Feb. 22. Members of Golf Battery and India Battery of the 3rd Battalion 14th Marine Regiment here are scheduled to conduct day and night firing training Feb. 22-24. The training is scheduled to end by 11 p.m. each training day.
