But what is this weird and giant pinkish blob floating in the waters off the coast of Cuba?
They represent, in fact, a really large mass of eggs containing baby diamond-shaped squid (Thysanoteuthis rhombus).
These masses can be up to 1.8 meters long (5’10”).
Adult diamond-shaped squids troll the tropical and temperate waters of the world.
And lady squids lay long egg masses such as those presented in the images.
