This geological event is the largest U.S. earthquake ever recorded in history and the second worldwide.

The powerful earthquake occurred on March 27, 1964 in southern Alaska at 5:36 pm.

The ground shaking lasted for nearly five minutes.

It was the largest U.S. earthquake ever recorded, and the second largest ever recorded worldwide.
