It remains the strongest earthquake ever recorded in US history. It produced unimaginable damage and a tsunami of over 100 feet high! It is really one of the most destructive and powerful events to affect the globe in modern times. The powerful earthquake occurred on March 27, 1964 in southern Alaska at 5:36 pm. The ground shaking lasted for nearly five minutes. It was the largest U.S. earthquake ever recorded, and the second largest ever recorded worldwide.
