Deadly India landslide traps 170 and kills 10 people near Pune.
It is estimated that 170 people are trapped under massive landslides that engulfed the village of Malin in western India.
These deadly landsides were triggered by torrential monsoon rain. The buried village is situated 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of Pune in Ambegoan, Maharashtra province.
This village counted 750 inhabitants before the massive mudslide! But there are reports of up to 30 – 40 buried houses. What is this number now about? Terrible!
This remote area of India has poor transport links thus hampering rescue efforts. 40 ambulances and 200 volunteers had been sent to the scene to help with the rescue effort.
Reports suggest an entire hillside came crashing down this morning. I must say, while watching these sad images I remember the massive Oso landslide in Washington State, USA. There are mountains of slush and mud… A logistical nightmare to reach those trapped.
