This eerie nature phenomena photo features the bioluminescence galactic glow. Yes, a glowing blue ocean and the Milky Way! Just that!
I find this picture extremely beautiful. The blue color glowing into the dark skies is produced by bioluminescent noctiluca. Look at the amazing brilliance and intensity!
The contrast of Noctiluca bioluminescence, and overhead, the glow of the Milky Way in one of the darkest skies in the world in simply breathtaking!
This amazing and eerie scenery was photographed by Fefo Bouvier off the coast of the little town of Barra de Valizas, Uruguay. It was promoted as Yesterday’s Earth Picture of the Day (EPOD).
Marine organisms may exhibit bioluminescence (cold light) to either attract prey or to discourage predators. This nature phenomenon occurs occasionally along the Uruguayan coast, but without the brilliance captured in this photograph.
