Residents of North Island have reported bright lights and mysterious booms on February 11, 2015.
The exploding fireball, described as white and orange to green and blue, rattled doors and windows at around 22:00 local time.
Reports came from Auckland to Nelson, and the Coromandel to New Plymouth as well as from people in Christchurch and on the West Coast. Can you imagine?
The flash in #Auckland tonight was definitely not lightning, most likely a #meteor #nzmeteor MetService image pic.twitter.com/FU2dHzEBhl

It was most probably a space object breaking up and burning up as it passes through our atmosphere.

Although the period of February through March is not known for its meteor showers, this fireball was extremely spectacular!
