A shallow magnitude 5.1 earthquake followed by a swarm of 22 smaller tremors hit Tuesday evening 11 miles from Upper Lake, California.

The moderately strong temblor occurred at 7:57 p.m. Pacific time (2:57 UTC) at a depth of 11.2 miles (14.4km).

The epicenter of the M5.1 quake was situated 19km (11.8 miles) NNE of Upper Lake, California and 85 miles from Sacramento.

About one hour later, the swarm of 22 small quakes started in the exact same region.
