This Kreutz family sungrazing comet appeared near the sun on August 2, 2016 and smashed the sun at 600 km/s at around 05:15 UTC on August 4.
This comet has became one of SOHO’s top 10 brightest sungrazers.
Sungrazing comets are all part of a single comet which has broken up while orbiting the Sun with a period of about 800 years.
The comet observed from August 2 to 4 was one of the brightest Kreutz sungrazers seen over the past 21 years.
