Poas volcano constantly erupts since 4 days
During the last 24 hours, the volcano exhibited a strong exhalation and degassing activity sending high quantities of gases, aerosols and ash in the sky. Moreover, many low – frequency (LP) and some volcano – tectonic (VT) earthquakes were recorded.
On April 22, there were two eruptions, the first at 13:16 and the second at 16:03. During the early hours of April 23, 5 eruptive events were recorded at 19:12, 19:14, 20:28, 20:32 and a very intense eruption at 22:12. This last eruption ejected ballistic fragments of rock many kilomters from the crater!
The 22:12 eruption also destroyed some electronic devices used by Ovsicori to assess the volcano behavior. OVSICORI staff are on site to repare the technical problems.
Two volcano – tectonic hit right under the volcano at 20:28 (M2.2) and 20:32, (M2,3), which were felt in the community of Vara Blanca.
Ashfalls and a strong smell of sulfur were reported in Alajuela, Fraijanes, San Francisco, San Juan Norte de Poas, San Miguel, Carbonal, Cajon.
Strong eruptive activity at Reventador volcano
The volcano maintains its strong activity of the last days and erupts constantly a few times a day. Although the summit of the volcano is covered b clouds, a large incandescence glows from the crater.
On April 23, 5 harmonic tremors, 4 episodes of emission tremor, 32 long period events and 22 explosions have been recorded. During a morning explosion, blocks of rock fell on the southern flank. No danger of lahars as there is no rain.
Lahars after eruption of Fuego volcano
Heay rains have generated dangerous hot lahars in the Ceniza, Trinidad, Las Lajas and Santa Teresa canyons.
These lahars can damage the roads between Siquinala and San Andrés Osuna, Rodeo a Guadalupe and others small communities living along the rivers.
Residents are asked to take appropriate measures.
Huge ash plume at Klyuchevskoy volcano
Satellite data delivered from KVERT show an ash plume extending about 72 km to the south-west of the volcano.
The moderate activity of the volcano continues. Ash and aerosol plumes could affect low-flying aircraft.
