The volcanic island Nishinoshima continues to grow due to an intense eruption and strong lava flow.
Within 2 weeks it gained more than 170 meters of new lava ground or 70,000 square meters.
Last month, Nishinoshima started erupting again after a rest of more than a year and a half.
The island has now expanded more than 180 meters on the southwest side and about 170 meters on the west.
This is equivalent to an increase of 70,000 square meters and a total of 2.75 square kilometers for the island.
Scientists believe the island could still continue growing in the future.
Imagine, expertes thought Nishinoshima wouldn’t grow that large after the first eruption. There is no exact SCIENCE, especially in volcanology.
