Oups! 70 homes – and still counting – have been dragged and destroyed with paved streets, light poles, water pipes and drainage by a major landslide in Tijuana’s Lomas del Rubí neighborhood on February 3, 2018. Everything happened in less than 4 hours, while locals had noticed movements and cracks in the hillside and streets over the past 15 days. Luckily, nobody was injured.
“There was a very loud thunder and then our house started scrambling and falling to pieces. Wood, stones and cement were all over the place since Monday, and things started getting worse by Tuesday and Wednesday. The ground was literally sinking until we could no longer enter or exit our house. We had to jump over the cracks in order to get our stuff out the house last night,” explains a residient.
According to residents, the neighborhood became unstable after nearby illegal construction work.
