Bang, Bang, Bang: M6.3, M6.0 and M6.0 hits Canada, Colombia and Argentina as Ring of Fire is Heating up

Three strong earthquakes hit countries lying along the Ring of fire in the last 24 hours.

The first M6.0 jolt hit Argentina followed by a M6.0 in Colombia. Eight hours later, a M6.3 quake hit at the upper end of the Cascadia, a region that was hit by an unusual series of 5 quakes on December 23, 2019.

The ring of fire is waking up right now, with three strong earthquakes and many aftershocks rocking Argentina, Colombia and Northwest Canada. The M6.3 earthquake off Vancouver Island, and actually at the upper end of the Cascadia Subduction Zone, is the seventh quake in an unusual series of moderately to strong shakings that has alerted seismologists as the region is overdue for a Big One.

M6.0 Earthquake in Argentina

The M6.0 tremor hit 15km WNW of El Hoyo, Argentina at 4:43p.m. (UTC) on December 24, 2019.

Although its epicenter was very deep, 560.6 km (348.4 miles)., it was reported by at least 3 people in the area. Just imagine if it had been closer to Earth’s surface…

M6.0 Earthquake Hit Colombia

A little more than two hours later, another M6.0 earthquake hit 4km SSE of Lejanias, Colombia at 7:04 p.m.

This earthquake was widely felt as its epicenter was just 10km (6.2 miles) deep.

More than 360 people have reported feeling shakings on the USGS webpage.

Thre strongest quake was followed by a swarm of aftershocks with magnitudes ranging from M5.8 and M4.4.

The tremors were felt in several cities in the center and southwest of the country, including Bogota.

Thanksfully, the region of the epicenters is home to agriculture and oil activities, and is not densely populated.

M6.3 earthquake off Vancouver Island

A M6.3 earthquake hit 182km W of Port Hardy, Canada on December 25 at 3:36 am (UTC).

The shallow earthquake is the last in an unusual series of moderately to strong earthquakes at the upper end of the Cascadia Subduction Zone.

The Ring of Fire is a major area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.
