A flock of more than 100 birds was found dead along a road in Dauphin County
The Pennsylvania Game Commission believes the birds were killed by passing cars and trucks.
The dead birds were found along 40 yards of Route 225 about a mile east of Halifax. They were nearly all on the eastbound side of the road.
Most of them were found on the side of the road, although a couple dozen had been flattened on the travel lane.
The birds showed signs of blunt-force trauma. It’s believed they were struck by one or more vehicles.
Speculations on social medias
Several other alternatives for the mysterious mass die-off of so many birds in one small location were discussed on social medias:
- Electrical lines along the road, about 30 feet from the birds, may have sent a discharge through a giant flock of birds.
- Agricultural chemicals may have killed the birds as the mass kill scene is surrounded by agricultural fields.
- Cell tower 50-75 yards northwest of the birds may have played a part.
Meanwhile, officials are investigating the cause of this unexplained bird mass die-off in Pennsylvania. A similar unexplained event occurred a few days ago near Barcelona, Spain.
