An earth dam break in the Monterey area caused a flash flood warning for Putnam and White County on April 4, 2020.

The Friday night dam failure in Putnam County washed one road away and damaged another, although no injuries or evacuations were reported, officials said.

The dam break had cut a hole through an area road. The earthen dam had failed because of a blockage caused by a beaver dam.

The National Weather Service said 20 feet of water has already drained out of the 17-acre private lake into the Calfkiller River.

The lake is located near Perdue Farms, which is across Interstate 40 from the Perdue chicken plant.

Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter said the breached area of the river had not expanded.

The warning has expired overnight, but emergency management officials will continue monitoring the situation.
