House Bill 567, also known as The Texas CROWN Act, has been signed into law by the Governor, effective September 1st, 2023.

The CROWN Act, which stands for Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair, would prohibit discrimination on the basis of hair texture or protective hairstyle associated with race, according to the office of Representative Rhetta Bowers, the author of the bill.

  1. Twice i went to a hairstylist…twice i was told, there is nothing i can do for you. You have what we call “angel hair”. Even if we permed your hair,it would turn out straight!

  2. ” texture or protective hairstyle “?? Does that mean that people with some textures can wear their hair any way they want, no matter how long it is, or how inappropriate it is for the circumstances, but people with straight hair can’t? Are we introducing one more example of black privilege?
