The city of Oslo only bought 183 electric buses from Solaris in April 2023. Now, the brand new electric buses are paralyzed in the capital city of Norway due to freezing cold temperature. Picture: solarisbus.com

Winter is here and with it the freezing cold. And now public transport is also paralyzed.

Oslo’s brand new fleet of electric buses is not designed for these temperatures – their batteries are failing miserably in the icy cold.

In total, around 140 departures were affected.

Too cold for the batteries – Brand new electric buses paralyzed in Oslo

The transport operator confirms that the electric buses are simply not reliable enough in winter: “The range of the electric buses decreases drastically in the cold. The batteries run out more quickly.

Oslo wants to make local public transport completely emission-free. This is why 183 new electric articulated buses were delivered in April 2023. The 100 million euro contract for this was signed last year. The buses are to run on Oslo’s busiest routes.

The new buses from Solaris were highly praised in advance and everything went well during the summer. But now, with the onset of winter, the weaknesses of the electric vehicles are becoming apparent: although a range of 250 kilometers is actually advertised, the buses sometimes simply break down. 1. Batteries don’t like it too cold. They don’t like it too hot either. They’re a “Goldilocks” energy source. They like things at around 70*F. Yeah; not ONE of the people trying to jam these stupid vehicles down our throats is saying that. Notice that these people aren’t USING these vehicles either…

  2. Couldn’t someone see this coming?
Batteries drain in the cold.Modern day batteries at twice the rate.Old car batteries you know lead style lasted a lot longer.Everyone wants new and improved.Hey give me the old shitty batteries they worked well and lasted.
No I dont have an electric car truck exc.Couldnt pay me to have one.

  3. Electric components, such as batteries of all sorts do NOT work in well in the cold, such as in subzero climates. Try leaving a flashlight in your vehicle during winter months. When trying to use it after at most a few days, the battery is dead… Even if you keep your electric vehicle in a warm garage during the night and take it out only to drive to work, the hours it will be sitting out in the cold, will seriously damage/pull the charge out of it. This constant repeated draining due to cold (or whatever) WILL cause the battery life to lessen drastically. Those batteries for electric vehicles are very expensive and not cost effective in any way shape or form.

  4. The stupidity of the left is extreme.

Electric vehicles don’t work. Buy them if you are a moron – or you want a fast toy.
