Watch: Glowing northern lights engulf erupting Bardarbunga volcano.
This picture reveals the hot orange glow of the volcanic eruption underneath cool and ethereal haze of the aurora borealis. Amazing!
Since the Aug. 31 eruption of Iceland’s Bardarbunga volcano, it has become the subject of some incredible photographs, videos, and satellite images. One of the most fantastic was shot by Icelandic photographer and park ranger Gísli Dúa Hjörleifsson. It features the Bardarbunga volcano erupting under the aurora borealis in the Holuhraun lava field in the east highlands of Iceland near Snæfell on Sept. 2, 2014.
Waiting for the next set of aurora borealis?
Yes, the interaction between the glowing northern lights with the heat and color from the volcano created a completely new natural color palette… That I have never witnessed before! Amazing!
