A part of the city of Ludwigshafen in Germany has been literally destroyed by a giant line explosion.
Can you imagine this? The huge explosion killed a construction worker, injured 26 others, damaged 50 homes, and left a 20-foot-deep crater in its wake. Flames reached up to 200 meters (600 ft) in height.

The cause of the explosion may have been workers digging down to a buried gas line. Police said the main fire at the site was extinguished by late afternoon, while smaller fires were brought under control shortly after.
After looking at this you now understand why energy companies are serious about people calling right away when they smell gas!
