A gigantic solar filament exploded and created a giant canyon of fire on April 4, 2015.
The giant filament stretched halfway across the sun and its eruption split the sun’s atmosphere, hurling a CME into space!
The huge solar filament exploded off the Sun at 23:00 UTC on April 4, sending a fast shockwave CME at approximately 900 km/s (2 million mph) in Earth’s general direction.
From end to end, the newly formed canyon of fire stretches more than 300,000 km. It’s a real Grand Canyon.
The CME is expected to narrowly miss Earth, sailing south of our planet on April 7-8 2015.
Well you still should look at the sky for auroras!
