The apocalyptic Hurricane Sandy has produced many dramatic photos.
One of the most amazing picture shows rare ice halos above the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
Scientists believe these multiple ice halos – floating in the sky from New England to Alabama – were caused by Sandy’s outer bands passing over the area and leaving behind a thin layer of ice crystals in the cirrus clouds.
Spaceweather writes the extremely rare apparition was “almost certainly connected to Hurricane Sandy”:
