Evacuation at Poas volcano, Costa Rica
Park administrators have forced tourists visiting the Poás Volcano on Sunday afternoon to evacuate the popular national park The preventive measure is due to an increase in the emanation of gases from the crater.
The Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica reported that gases come from a new fumarole that formed in the volcano last week. Moreover, abundant water coming from the fumarole formed a small creek, rich in sediments. Vapor from the fumarole is also rich in acid gases and registers a temperature of 90 degrees Celsius (194 °F).
According to volanologists, a volume of fresh magma from deeper levels is rising toward the surface.
