Tropical Storm Ivo Washes Out Mexico

Tropical Storm Ivo left two dead and communities across the country ravaged by floods, sinkholes, hailstorms and damaged infrastructure over the weekend. 

Both deaths were caused by electrocution.

A 7-year-old boy from Ahome, Sinaola, was electrocuted as a lightning struck the refrigerator on which he was lying. An adult was electrocuted while taking a bath in Monterrey, Nuevo León.

Sinaloa Governor Quirino Ordaz Coppel urged the federal government to send aid to victims in the affected municipalities of Guasave, Elota, Mocorito, El Rosario and Mazatlán, all in a state of emergency. 

In Ahome, seven temporary emergency shelters have opened to help 268 people that have been forced to evacuate their homes.

A sinkhole opened up on the Mazatlán-Culiacán highway, forcing the closure of two of the road’s four lanes. 

School didn’t start yesterday for everybody. School start was postponed in Ciudad Insurgentes and in Comondú after heavy rains early Saturday morning. 

State Governor Carlos Mendoza said the flooding damaged homes and forced evacuations. Owners should become aid from officials. 

The tropical storm Ivo almost flooded all parts of Mexico. Most affected states include Sonora, Puebla, Michoacán, and Morelos.
