86 dusky dolphins have been discovered dead on a remote beach in Namibia on March 6, 2020.
According to first investigations, the mammals died about a week before they were found at Hottentot Bay.
The real cause of the mass die-off remains unknown and will be investigated in the next weeks or months.
Scientists suspect that one of the dolphins was injured or got sick and called on the others for help. And this would have led to this mass beaching!
“We unfortunately could not take samples due to the decomposition, but we took water samples to determine if the dolphins ate toxic plankton.“
