Look at these frozen pockets of methane trapped within the deepest lake on Earth. Aren’t they beautiful?
These frozen bubbles of gas are truly a natural wonder, but with a deadly core.
Yes, these ice orbs have a dark side: they are full of dangerous gas, that may once explode or enhance Earth changes’ phenomena.
These giant gas bubbles are produced in lakes and ponds by bacteria feeding on decaying organic matter. The released methane then floats to the surface in bubbles and become trapped when the water freezes in winter.
Of course, during spring thaw, the bubbles pop and release the methane gas into the atmosphere. There are some cool videos online of people lightning up the gas.
Meanwhile huge methane vents and craters have been discovered around the world from Russia to Western US and East US. So imagine if such a methane chimney would burst into flame! That would be very dangerous and insane!
