The Hawaii county Civil Defense Agency (COH) has asked residents to stay indoors after the Kilauea volcano erupted following a series of earthquakes.
The eruption on the Big Island took place late Sunday night local time at the Halemaumau Crater.
The following video was taken on the western rim of Kīlauea Caldera. Lava is erupting from a fissure in the NW wall of Halemaʻumaʻu crater and cascading into the deepest part of the crater, which had been occupied by a water lake … and now replaced with a growing lava lake!

After about 2 hours of eruption (December 21 at 1:30 a.m. HST), the lake had risen by ~10 m (32 ft). The growing lava lake had almost reached the level of the lowest down-dropped block that formed during the 2018 collapse events.

The Kilauea Volcano observatory raised the alert level to warning and the aviation color code to Red after a glow was detected within the crater of the volcanos summit and a new eruption has commenced within Kilauea’s summit caldera.
In the picture below, the red spots are the approximate locations of vents feeding lava flowing into the bottom of Halema‘uma‘u crater. The water lake has been replaced with a growing lava lake. The easternmost vent is currently exhibiting fountains up to approximately 50 m (164 ft) high.

Ashfall is forecast in the Kau District in Wood Valley, Pahala, Naalehu and Ocean View, Southwest of the eruption site. Stay indoors.
The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports an eruption at the Halemaumau Crater of the Kilauea Volcano. Trade winds will push any embedded ash toward the Southwest. Fallout is likely in the Kau District in Wood Valley, Pahala, Naalehu and Ocean View. Stay indoors to avoid Exposu

The advisory comes after a M4.4 earthquake struck near Hilo late Sunday local time. Meanwhile, more than 65 aftershocks have followed the main tremor.
Kilauea erupted in May 2018, destroying more than 700 homes and forcing residents to evacuate.
Do you think this new eruption of Kilauea volcano in Hawaii will also last as long as the 2018 explosion? Hopefully not!

When that lava flow hits water, pillow basalt formations will occur. Kinda neat little pillow shaped rocks as lava cools.
Sure wouldn’t want to be near any volcano spewing lava. Good luck Hawaiian people.
All the most beautiful places seem to have major cataclysmic events. Earthquakes are one thing, but volcanic activity like that would make me move as fast as I could.

They should hold the meeting over by Kilauea?
or in a sinkhole deep enough they don’t come back 😉
Mr. Strange Sounds,

3 min.
Looks like a dome fountain and increased flow, seismic steady.
Seems normal, but the volcano menehune and spirits might be restless?
