What Are These Floating “UFO” Power Stations?
A growing number of energy and aerospace projects are exploring ways to capture wind at high altitude, where airflow is often stronger and more consistent than it is near the ground.
Instead of building ever-taller towers, some systems use tethered platforms — think kites, drones, or balloon-like structures — connected to the ground by cables. The platform generates power directly (via onboard turbines or rotors) or produces mechanical energy through the tether that can be converted below.
