Some huge cracks are tearing the ground apart in the area of Valderramma, Antique in the Philippines since June 10, 2021.
Approximately 200 residents have been evacuated in Barangay Igmasandig, Valderrama, Antique as ground cracks in the area continue to expand.
This region of Antique is situated located in the Sundaland block, facing the Negros Trench, a subduction zone that goes under the Philippine Mobile Belt.
Movement from the Sunda and the Philippine Sea Plate along these trenches will have an effect on every coastal areas of the Philippines.
The Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) received reports of the fissures on June 10.
On Friday the cracks were estimated to measure around 250 meters and growing.
The cracks destroyed 8 houses and partially damaged 9 others as well as the Barangay hall and chapel of Igmasandig.
More of this will happen especially if you are near subduction zones. You should prepare accordingly.
A M4.8 last June 7 in the area of Valderrama, Antique where the cracks appeared.
The current rainy weather may loosen the soil and help the cracks grow further.
