On Saturday, April 5, 2014, a lightning struck the center of a football field during the training of the two teams. Two soccer players from Sillian’s team were injured, one of them seriously. He lies in artificial coma at the hospital, but is out of danger!
The lightning struck shortly before 4pm while the athletes were warming up. First it started with a rain downpour like during this football game between:
While most of the players found shelter in the cabins, two remained on the field to finish their training. Bad for them! A ten-meter high, multicolor lightning struck the center of the field. One of the two teammates directly fell to the ground, unconscious, without pulse. The second remained conscious and was not seriously injured, as reported by ORF.
Too bad there are no video of this lightning. However, I found one on Youtube showcasting the terrible moment a lightning strikes during a game between It started off as a football match between two top South African teams, Moroka Swallows and Jomo Cosmos. Terrifying! Probably very similar to what happened in Austria.
Both players are now out of danger. A present paramedic and several spectators resuscitated the seriously injured athlete before being put in artificial coma and flown to the Klagenfurt hospital by helicopter.
