A giant sinkhole swallows a truck in Guangxi, China. Yes, just look out below!
Is China becoming a Swiss cheese landscape? Well this pipe truck is its latest victim.
A huge truck was swallowed by a 40-square-meter wide and 6-meter deep pit. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
It is not the first time that massive trenches open up in China. Last year, an entire building was swallowed by a giant cavity in Guangzhou, China.
Some cave-ins are human-induced (related to land-use practices such as groundwater pumping and construction. But most underground caverns occur in areas where the rock beneath the land surface is dissolved by groundwater.
Giant cavities are not limited to China. Some holes, apparently caused by methane explosion, open up in Siberia. Others are cratering the landscape around the Dead Sea in Israel. Finally, the Louisiana sinkhole is growing constantly since several years over salt caverns.
It is unknown where the next will open up… But be aware, it could be under your house!
