A new tattoo has been discovered on Ötzi the Iceman mummy.
This strange new drawing is the 61th. And it came as a big surprise.
Researchers in Italy have discovered a strange new tattoo on the ribcage of the 5,300-year-old mummy known as Ötzi the Iceman.
The tattoo consists of four parallel lines measuring 20 to 25 millimeters.
The new tattoo has been found on the thoracic, on the lower right side of the mummy’s chest, in deeper layers of Ötzi’s dark-colored skin.
This is baffling as all the other tattoos were engraved close to joints and on his lower back and legs.
Many of the Iceman’s tattoos correspond to classic acupuncture points. However, the new tattoo throws the joint pain treatment theory into question, since it isn’t located near a joint. Maybe for chest pain?
In any cases, this new unexpected tattoo reveals another mystery around the Ötzi the Iceman mummy.
The Maiden is another weird tattooed mummy!
