This perfect solar halo appeared in the sky of Kolkata, India on April 30, 2016…
The amazing stunned residents across the city who posted these beautiful images of the atmospheric phenomenon on social media.
Some say it’s a gift from God, others, believe it’s a warning about the end of days. I think it is something awesome!
Halos are an optical phenomenon that occur around the sun or the moon while there are very high cirrus clouds in the atmosphere.
They are caused by light reflected and refracted by ice crystals.
Sometimes rainbow colors appear as the light is refracted, the wavelengths are split into the red, orange, blue.
Although India is experiencing one of its longest drought in many years, the very high levels of the atmosphere are cold and can sometimes reach -95 degrees Fahrenheit (-70 degrees Celsius) at the top of the troposphere.
This one in Kolkata is awesome!
I’ve already seen some around the sun and around the moon. Have you too?
