Did a ship full of dildos sink off California?
A beachgoer found thousands of 10-inch wiggly pink sausages on Drakes Beach on Dec. 6, after a storm. But what did happen?
The ocean offers plenty of surprises. There are purple lobsters, garbage patches, and even dildos in cod. But when David Ford found thousands of pulsing fish on Drakes Beach in California, he just got baffled.
So was it a sausage or dildo ship accident?
What is this Penis Fish?
The creature with a phallic shape is called ‘fat innkeeper worms’ (Urechis caupo). And the mass die-off on Drakes Beach is mostly due to a recent powerful storm off California’s coast.
This worm lives since 300 million years underwater, burrowing in mud or sand. It can live up to 25 years, feeds on bacteria, plankton and other small particles, which it collects using “sticky mucus nets.”
Why Did The Penish Fish Wash Up?
According to biologists, some powerful storms, and there were many those last days, are capable of breaking apart the sediments, and leaving their contents stranded on shore. This is what probably happened to the dildo worms.
The same mass strandings have already been reported in the area at Pajaro Dunes, Moss Landing, Bodega Bay, and Princeton Harbor.
So it was not a sausage or dildo ship accident. Nope! And just remember you can eat them as a delicatesse if you travel to China. I will not try that ugly thing! [BayNature]
