More than 500 people got bitten by scorpions in Egypt’s southern province of Aswan. Officials report that strong hail storms and heavy rain forced scorpions out of their burrows and into the streets and people’s houses.

503 residents in Aswan got antidotes for scorpion bites … there were no deaths from the bites,” Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said in a Saturday statement.

Meanwhile, local media reports said that three people have died from scorpion bites in the city of Aswan.

According to the acting health minister, there is enough anti-venom in all hospitals in Egypt, with 3,350 doses currently available in hospitals in Aswan Governorate alone.

Heavy rainfall, up to 4.5 mm in some places, led to surface run-off and torrential rain. The water entered the burrows, and anything in the burrows came out of the water and headed to low-lying areas and homes.

According to residents, venemous snakes are also invading villages. They are more dangerous than the scorpions.

Natural dangers

Several types of dangerous scorpions and snakes inhabit the mountainous and desert areas near the city of Aswan, especially broad-tailed scorpions, which are one of the most deadly types of scorpions in the world.

A single sting of this type of scorpion can inject enough venom to kill an adult human in less than an hour.

Symptoms of poisoning such as difficulty breathing, muscle tremors and unusual movements of the head can develop quickly after a sting. [Pledge Times, Sputnik]

    • I think we talked about this once. I tried some on the base in a circle around fruit trees. Problem out here is 30-50 mph winds. It works good on carpet, inside.

  1. Scorpions sting not bite. The tail has a narly stinger with a painful poisonous sting. Most are small and hard to detect especially if they’re hiding in blankets, shoes and clothing. Glad I live in an area where only the weather, terrain, and bears can kill you.

    • We got bears, and mountain lions. Scorpions on occasion. I hope elk come by this year. Had some bugling, but none last year. We have bigass mulies. One almost hit my truck, but I drove below the speed limit on purpose, so I was able to foot break, and steer out of it. Biggest mulie buck I ever saw. World record size.
I never hunted deer or elk. I just hunt predator/varmint.
I rescued some baby fawns as a kid, so I just don’t, but if there’s a food shortage, I will be making some jerky out of ’em.

  2. Can one of them invade ayatollah Khamanie so we can see peace freedom in Iran. Israel closer than ever to hit Iran after dry run attack without contact? last week !

  4. Hmmm, my roosters, chickens, and ducks eat scorpions. We don’t have that many up here. This may sound strange, but I like shooting them with my big bore blowgun, and 11″ bamboo darts. Sometimes in the wilderness, things get boring, so I make my own entertainment.
