The birth of an iceberg can be violent.
The sound of an iceberg dying is surprisingly loud!
When they are sloughed off glaciers, icebergs are accompanied by shotgun cracks of sound and crashing waves. Once loose, icebergs drift out to sea, at the mercy of winds and ocean currents. But it turns out that icebergs might not all go quietly into the night.
The death of an iceberg is as loud as 214 supertankers taken together! This is the find of a study published in the Journal of Oceanography.
