Thursday 1.30pm: A sonic boom over Peterborough was caused by military jets flying to intercept a civilian aircraft which had temporarily lost radio contact with air traffic control.
The loud booms was reported around Peterborough to as far away as Market Deeping and Huntingdon with many saying their homes shook at the noise just after 1pm.
Just minutes later, RAF spokeman said the loud explosion-like noise and the following rumblings had been created by a Typhoon aircraft from RAF Conningsby to investigate a civilian aircraft which had lost radio contact with air traffic control.
