A boom and strange lights were witnessed on August 19, 2014 over New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
They are probably related to exploding meteors. But the source of these weird lights are still unknown!
The lightning-like flash in the sky followed by a loud bang experienced in Wanganui yesterday morning, at 6.20am, was likely a bolide disintegrating in the atmosphere. According to a witness, the strange light was orange and then faded after the explosion. On the evening of the same day, another meteor was observed over Christchurch and Dunedin.
On the same day, but at a complete other location, another strange light has been witnessed by residents in several areas in the North-Central Province including Anurdhapura, Padaviya, Habarana and Hingurakgoda, Sri Lanka. As stated in the article, it was probably a fireball explosion.
