Residents of Saratov were stunned by a rather unusual atmospheric phenomenon called light pillars tonight.

This optical effect occurs when light is reflected from the ice crystals suspended vertically in the air. Pillars of light are often appearing around the moon, city lights and other bright light sources.
The best moment to observe this phenomenon is during sunrise or sunset when the temperature drops below 20 degrees.
And when they appear with northern lights, it’s even more phenomenal!
